An open terrarium!

This winter I attended a Zoom Seminar on creating miniature landscapes!

It was an awesome hour chocked full of terrarium ideas, indoor and outdoor container landscapes and even outdoor in ground landscapes!

Lots of ideas and I have not been super successful with terrariums but the handout included the layers of gravel, charcoal and potting soil with the minimum depths of each layer!  So, I had this lovely stemmed glass container for years but was unsuccessful in attempting a planting in it!

So, now that I had the recipe, I tried it again!  So far so good, we'll see how it survives!

Peony Tulips

Knock Knock on my door Saturday!

There stood a neighbor with flowers and wine in her hands saying Happy Easter!  So glad she moved into the neighborhood!

"Here we are again!"

At last, time has arrived for my spring friends to pop up and shout "Hi!  We are back again!"

I have two kinds of squill, one blue and one white with blue accents.  Two kinds of Crocus...I need to replant more this fall!  The squill spread easily so I took a few shovels and transplanted them to the pollinator bed in the nearby Neighborhood Park that I have adopted!

I used to have dog tooth violets but they were so aggressive I killed them all and lost a few crocus along with them.

Not our usual MN traditional Spring Flowers

It was interesting and fun to search for flowers blooming in the Conservatory at Como Park.  Definately not the usual spring florals we find in our gardens!  But beautiful indeed!

Marjorie McNeely Conservatory Como Park Minneapolis MN

The second stop on our escape day last week, was to walk thru lush greenery and flowers growing in SE Minneosta in March!

The fragrance of earth, plant material and flowers was just what we needed to celebrate the ending of the white winter of Minnesota!

Indoor miniature garden ideas

Last week we escaped town for a day of gardening inspiration in the Twin Cities area.  First stop of the day was the Original Bachman's on Lyndale in Minneapolis!   Denny, I and Tammy (neighbor gardener) had a delightful lunch in their patio inside a greenhouse!  The blue skies and sunshine were wonderful streaming thru the glass ceiling lighting up the flowers and plants on display.  A wonderful promise of spring in full bloom soon!

I just had to indulge in some mini plants for an open terrarium on my agenda and could not resist capturing a few pictures of indoor miniature gardens for inspiration!

Crocus time in SE MN!

Carla, a gardening friend, sent me a picture of her crocus that are up and smiling!  They got buried in 7 inches of snow the other day, but survived!    My crocus never bloom this early, thinking I have them planted too deep?  I need to order some more this fall as they have sort of disappeared!
